ARTIST STATEMENT

Identity and the environment one inhabits go hand in hand. Some individuals feel limited in self-exploration when put in an uncomfortable place. Informal self-portraiture is used to explore how freedoms are created and limited based on the setting. The paintings push eccentric individuality to the extreme because that is what feels comfortable to me. Freedom exists when you reject normality. Expectations are nonexistent and one can make choices without the fear of rejection. I ask myself what it takes to get to that stage of self-acceptance or does it ebb and flow?
